Amy Schumer did not have an easy go of pregnancy last year, when she had son Gene. And after enduring her hyperemesis gravidarum (while still performing standup) and giving birth, she’s been sharing all the glory and glamour that is the first year of motherhood. Other new parents need all the humor they can get. We’re so pleased, then, that she’s continuing her habit of honestly documenting her life as she undergoes fertility treatment to have a second child.

As much as we love to give you breaking Amy Schumer news as she posts each of her hilarious photos and videos, we thought we’d gather them all into this one place for your viewing pleasure too. If you are also going the IVF route or have done it, you’ll no doubt see some of yourself in these very unfiltered moments of hers. Even if you haven’t had fertility difficulties, you can probably relate anyway. However we eventually become parents, we all sacrifice a lot of ourselves for those little ones — especially our dignity.

1. The IVF reveal

“I’m a week into IVF and feeling really run down and emotional,” she wrote on Instagram on January 9, posting a photo of her bruised belly. “If anyone went through it and if you have any advice or wouldn’t mind sharing your experience with me please do. My number is in my bio. We are freezing my eggs and figuring out what to do to give Gene a sibling.”

Her c-section scar in the pic is a wonderful reminder of what she’s already done to her body for baby no. 1. It was also very brave of Schumer to ask the internet for help like that. Just a reminder: Giving advice to other parents is absolutely wonderful, when they ask for it!

2. The doctor’s office glamour shot.

Apparently, the internet delivered with some helpful words. (Though that’s probably not all she received.)

“I learned to eat salty food after and drink Gatorade,” she said of people’s responses. “Ice the area. Take arnica and put arnica on the bruises. To be patient and kind to myself and that there are sooooo many of us willing to be there for each other. Your stories helped me more than you can imagine. I feel incredibly lucky. I’m really hoping this works and staying positive. Much much love!”

3. Garbage retrieval day.

As all New Yorkers know, sanitation workers do not care what’s going on in your life, even when it’s the day you’re getting your eggs retrieved. At least we all get to enjoy the satisfying sight of an old sofa being crushed.

4. Amy Schumer is even funnier on drugs.

Not many of us would be so willing to show the world the crazy things we say on painkillers. It’s good to know part of this egg-retrieval process was fun for her.

“We are warriors, all of us,” Schumer said last week, at Oprah’s 2020 Vision: Your Life In Focus Tour, in Charlotte, N.C. She spoke about what motherhood has taught her. “I didn’t just learn how strong I was. I really learned, as a whole, how strong women are.”

Considering how run down and emotional she said she was feeling just a week before, this is an inspirational attitude to have.

6. A reminder of why she’s doing it.

“Put the milk on the counter and nobody gets hurt,” Schumer captioned this pic of Gene grabbing her tongue. Yep, we’ll do anything for those guys, even give them the very tongues out of our mouths.
