In a slaughterhouse in Dissen, there has been a massive outbreak of Covid-19-infections. A total of 92 employees have been tested positive in the district of Osnabrück on Sunday. The Infected and their contacts are currently in quarantine. Since Monday is no longer produced in the slaughterhouse.
Many of the Infected were living in Collective centres, and were employed by subcontractors, informed of the district also. Previously, many Coronavirus infection cases in several other German slaughterhouses occurred.
The trade Union nahrung-Genuss-Gaststätten (NGG) appealed in view of the Coronavirus outbreaks to the Federal government, to bring about a “fundamental Reform” of the meat industry on the way. There needs to be new laws and to “clear rules” for the industry, said NGG-Deputy chief Freddy Adjan the Newspapers of the Funke media group (Monday edition). This includes, especially, the prohibition of contracts for work and services in the core area of the enterprises belong to.

Minister of labour, Hubertus Heil (SPD) wants to introduce proposals to change the occupational health and safety act. According to reports, a proposal for a decision provides for a broad prohibition of contracts for work in slaughterhouses.
Trade Union Deputy chief Adjan stressed that the System of contracts for work and services – that is, the engagement of sub-contractors – have allows the worst conditions in the industry. The companies would no longer be “likely to forgive the slaughter of dubious cheap companies, and thus the responsibility to outsource”. The meat companies would have put at risk “ruthless, the health of tens of thousands of people”.
