CrossFit legend Tia-Clair Toomey has just announced she is launching her own social media channel for fitness enthusiasts. TFITNESS is a free private group on Facebook where anybody can sign up for workouts, recipes, live-streamed training sessions, and expert tips and advice from guests.

Most importantly, Toomey says she hopes that subscribers will help to build a collaborative, inclusive space where people help each other to stay motivated and pursue their goals.

“With so much uncertainty in the world right now, I’m making my best effort to focus on what I CAN control,” Toomey wrote on Instagram today. “When I first started Crossfit, one of the things that really drew me in was the community. The people, the culture – I was hooked. So Shane and I have decided to launch our own supportive community right here ONLINE!”

The launch of TFITNESS comes after several weeks of controversy and uncertainty surrounding the fate of CrossFit, Inc. following the departure of Greg Glassman. The founder and former CEO was criticised by the fitness community for his flippant remarks surrounding the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement, leading to a much larger conversation about the necessity of creating safe, inclusive cultures in fitness. CrossFit, Inc. has since appointed Dave Castro as CEO, and as of today, Eric Roza is officially the company’s new owner.

Toomey, a three-time CrossFit Games champion, did not directly reference recent events at the organization in today’s post. The decision to launch a new online fitness space could be in response to the pandemic, and the shift from gyms to home workouts; Toomey herself recently spoke with Men’s Health about the challenges of training in lockdown. But the language of the announcement could also easily be interpreted as a promise to try and do better.

“The page is where we will be dedicated to creating an inclusive community with and for all of you,” she said.
