Asda to become first supermarket to offer Covid vaccine – which stores will offer the jab?

Matt Hancock says there could be annual coronavirus vaccine

Asda has been chosen by NHS England to operate a vaccination centre. The vaccination centre will appear in one of its in-store pharmacies in Birmingham and vaccines will be administered by qualified Asda staff. The George clothing section in the store will be transformed into a vaccination centre and will operate Monday to Sunday, 8am to 8pm. 

Roger Burnley, Asda CEO and President, said: “We are incredibly proud to provide this service and are keen to do all we can to help the NHS and Government accelerate the rollout of the vaccination programme.”

Asda has been approved to offer the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine – the most difficult to store of the three vaccines currently approved in the UK. Also the first to be approved. 

The supermarket said it is working with NHS England to asses which other sites could be used as vaccination centres. 

It would also suppoert the use of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine in its 238 in-store pharmacies.
