Jared Leto just showed off his impressive upper body strength on Instagram, in a short video clip in which he can be seen traversing an indoor climbing wall with apparent ease. The 49-year-old actor captioned the post with a simple monkey emoji, and he certainly looked like he’d be at home swinging from one tree to another if they ever decide to reboot Tarzan again.
Rock-climbing is a great way to build jacked biceps and forearms, but it’s not just about arm strength; it’s a full body workout. Everything from your grip, to your core, to your back, has to be fully engaged in order to prevent you falling. Which is why climbing gyms are becoming increasingly popular as a way to stay in shape, favored by the likes of Aquaman star Jason Momoa and, as we now know, Suicide Squad actor Jared Leto.
Leto has clearly been doing his climbing workouts for some time, and moves with adept skill in the video—but when it comes to his fitness, he is perhaps better known for posting snapshots of the results of his workouts on social media. Specifically, the six-pack abs that kept attracting thirsty comments from his Instagram followers after he started building muscle again following his skinny stint as the Joker.
The actor also recently garnered attention for a completely different kind of transformation, following the release of the trailer for Ridley Scott’s fact-based crime drama House of Gucci, in which Leto disappears (quite literally) into the role of Paolo Gucci, thanks to some judiciously applied makeup, prosthetics and era-appropriate costuming. It’s not the first time Leto has drastically changed his appearance for a movie; he lost a considerable amount of weight for Dallas Buyers Club, and gained more than 60 pounds to play Mark David Chapman, the killer of John Lennon, in the 2007 film Chapter 27.
