Kaavia James traded her regular Shady Baby persona for a face full of smiles this weekend as she performed in her first ever dance recital! Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade’s 4-year-old daughter was the cutest ballerina-in-training at her show, serving colorful fashion, beautiful looks, and adorable moves for her proud parents.
The beginning of the video — which was cheekily captioned “The real Perfect Find debuting this weekend 😏” in honor of her mom’s new movie, The Perfect Find — shows Kaavia all dressed up in her pink, blue, and purple costume, complete with a sparkly leotard, a tulle skirt, and a matching purple flower in her hair. “I’m ready!” she tells the camera. So adorable!

Next, the video flips to her second look: a sunshine yellow dress with pink accents. Her hair is up in a bun, and she has a little fascinator on her head. In this clip, she’s jumping up and down as her dad says, “Oh, let me see. Pose for me!”
She immediately stops and poses, smiling with her red lips and sparkly makeup. “Hey, look at you!” her dad praises.
Finally, we get to see Kaavia in action! The video zooms in on Kaavia on stage, twirling and dancing like a pro! She is graceful and serious and focused, and it’s the cutest thing we’ve ever seen.

Flowers & Praise
At the end of the video, her friend gives her flowers, and she shyly accepts them. Her dad is in the background saying, “Kaavia, you got so many flowers!” She is just so cute.
People took to the comment section to praise Kaavia.
“And her little friend is always there hyping her up. Cute!” one person wrote.
“That is so beautiful!!! The flowers at the end did it for me,” someone else said.
“Such a beautiful talented precious lil doll. ?❤️❤️❤️” another wrote.
“Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️. She looks so happy. Awesome job??,” said another.

Mom Confidence
In an interview with E! News earlier this month, Union opened up about motherhood, which she called “one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life.”
She also referred to Kaavia as an “awesome” kid with “big, big opinions.” “We’re just waiting for her to tell us what’s really the tea, ’cause she has it,” Union joked.
The Gabrielle Union: My Journey to 50 star also shared what she was afraid of when it came to raising Kaavia, as well as helping raise Wade’s kids Zaire, 21, Zaya, 16, and Xavier, 9. “I was afraid of being a bad mom, of not living up to the great moms that I grew up with,” she said. “I didn’t want my lack of understanding or knowledge on every single thing to leave this gaping hole in her life.”
“As I got more confidence,” she said, “I’m like, ‘Oh, we’re all winging it? We’re just doing the best we can.’ It gave me even more confidence to trust that, maybe, I’m solid at this and I’m raising happy, healthy, free Black girls.”

Kaavia Is Happy
Kaavia definitely seems happy, healthy, and free if her videos are any indication. She dances all the time (like when her parents are away), and she literally jumps for joy and gratitude when receiving presents. She may be nicknamed Shady Baby — for good reason — but she is also full of joy. Kaavia’s videos are always a delight to watch, especially as she grows up and discovers her own interests and passions!
