Plumber Lee Elliott, 38, shares his day on a plate.
Lee Elliott will be running 10 kilometres in support of The Pancare Foundation.
5.45am As a tradie, I'm up bright and early and start every day with a Berocca, a shot of apple cider vinegar, a shot of chlorophyll and water.
6.30am I make sure I'm on site by 6.30am so I can tuck into my muesli, strawberries, blueberries and yoghurt for breakfast.
9.30am A cappuccino with stevia sweetener.
11.00am I'm famished. Lunch is a Turkish roll with chicken schnitzel and salad, plus a pink lady apple.
3.30pm On the way home I snack on a banana.
5.30pm Post-gym workout, I have a protein shake with coconut water.
7pm As I get home earlier than my partner, Georgia, I'm the chef in the house. I cook a beef and black bean stir-fry with heaps of vegies and brown rice.
Dr Joanna McMillan says …
Top marks for … Getting wholegrains into your day with the muesli and brown rice, eating plenty of vegies and fruit (love that you had a banana instead of a processed, packaged snack), and spacing your protein out over the day. This is great for maintaining muscle mass while keeping appetite in check.
If you keep eating like this you'll … Risk damaging the delicate cells of your oesophagus from that daily shot of vinegar. There is no evidence that this or the shot of chlorophyll does any good.
Why don't you try … Using the vinegar in a salad dressing instead. Consumed in a meal, vinegar lowers the GI (glycaemic index), helping with blood glucose control. Get your chlorophyll naturally along with all the phytochemicals that plants have to offer by including dark leafy greens in at least one meal every day.
Lee is an ambassador for Run Melbourne, taking place across two days, Saturday July 27 and Sunday July 28. He will be running 10 kilometres in support of The Pancare Foundation.
