Amanda Gorman's Powerful New Picture Book 'Change Sings' Is Finally Here

It’s here! Amanda Gorman’s new picture book for kids, Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem, is on sale as of today, and we couldn’t be more excited to get our copy. Gorman, of course, stole the show when she read her inaugural poem “The Hill We Climb” at the swearing-in of President Joe Biden in January, and news of her forthcoming children’s book caused a flutter of excitement. Now, fans of the young poet’s inspiring words don’t have to wait any longer.

As explained by publisher Viking Books, the story follows a young girl as she leads a cast of characters on a musical journey where they learn anything is possible when their voices join together. They discover that together they can make changes — big or small — in the world, in their communities, and in most importantly, in themselves.

“I wrote this book because I believe every child has the ability to make a difference and that they are the leaders of the future,” Gorman said in a press release for the book, per People. “I hope readers will enjoy Change Sings and remember that all of us have the power to change the world.”

Paired with Gorman’s uplifting words are illustrations from artist Loren Long — whom you might know as the author and illustrator of the New York Times bestselling Otis series and the illustrator of the #1 New York Times bestseller Of Thee I Sing by former President Barack Obama.

“I can hear change humming. In its loudest, proudest song. I don’t fear change coming, And so I sing along,” Gorman writes in the book, while another passage, accompanying an illustration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gloriously graffitied on the side of a building reads, “I scream with the skies, of red and blue streamers. I dream with the cries, of tried-and-true dreamers.”

We’re overflowing with inspiration, how about you?
