It happens every single summer: You pour time and energy into a makeup look for a day out and about, then the second you step out the front door, the searing sunlight glares directly into your eyes. You pop on a beloved pair of shades and — shit, the makeup's already transferring. After a few hours, you're lucky to have any makeup left around your nose. Thank our lucky stars, Toronto-based makeup artist Janine Holmes has developed a safeguard against this and shared her entire process on TikTok.

"This is my biggest stress, of being a celebrity makeup artist," Holmes shares in her clip. "I've come to accept that celebrities will always want to wear their sunglasses, but I don't let it stress me out anymore because I've figured out an amazing technique to make sure sunglasses don't ruin the makeup around the nose area." Spoiler alert: It does take a tiny bit of extra time and effort, but it's well worth it for anyone who can't live without their shades (or wears regular glasses for vision every day).

The first thing you'll need is an eye primer, one without any pigment. "You want to press it into the sides of the nose where the sunglasses make contact," she says. "Then, apply a concealer or foundation over top and blend that in."

Got a setting spray, setting powder, and makeup sponge on hand? Great, 'cause you're going to need them. "Soak a sponge in a long-lasting setting spray and grab a fair amount of loose setting powder," Holmes explains. "Pack it over the top [of the concealer or foundation] and let it marinate for a few minutes." In other words, bake your nose. Lightly brush it off with a fluffy makeup brush once it's had time to sit.

If you want to take things a step further, Holmes says you can also wipe down the nose pads of your sunglasses with a bit of alcohol (which you should probably do on the regular anyway so you're not letting your nose soak in your leftover oil). A light dusting of setting powder in the same area is the cherry on top.

Pretty simple, right? Right. So grab your best and biggest pair of sunglasses, go forth, and enjoy shot girl summer without all that squinting.
