Joe Wicks, the cover star of Men’s Health UK’s July/August issue, has a lot to teach you. The 33-year-old has seen himself go from a struggling park boot-camp trainer to an in-demand social media personality, YouTube #PEWithJoe phenom, magazine cover model, and so much more.

There’s no denying that hi s relentless personality, charm and online business acumen helped pave the way for success. But what of the lessons that he’s learned along the way?

Below, we’ve cherry-picked a few quotes from our cover interview that help shine a light on Wicks’ continual successes. Hopefully, they can inspire you to make a positive change, however small. Let’s get to it.

Staying Motivated

“When I started doing fitness, I always had this voice in my head telling me to keep going… It was like that when I first started doing boot camps in the park, and it was the same when I started the Instagram videos. If I kept doing it, I knew people would come back in the end. That internal voice is what has kept me going. It’s been the same with the schools thing. When (UK broadcaster) Channel 4 first turned me down, I was upset for about five minutes. Then, I got on the phone to my brother and said, “Fuck it, we’re going to do it anyway.” I’ve just got this dialogue going on inside, an inner energy.”

Exercising to Feel Good

“I just have the ability to make a four-year-old kid and a 50-year-old man feel good at the same time. I don’t talk down or up. I’m just myself. I try to be as genuine and authentic as possible. I’m not the best trainer in the world. I’m not the most technical or scientific. But I consistently put videos out there, whether it’s for your grandma or a young toddler. And I’m relentless.”

Training After Coronavirus

“People will question whether it’s worth paying £150 a month for a gym membership just to go once a week. I’ve always been a fan of the home workout. I know a lot of people think that jumping around in your living room is never going to be as effective. But you can get an amazing workout using your bodyweight alone. Right now, people are realising that a morning workout can be transformative. They’re making time for it as a priority, rather than simply squeezing it in around work and the commute. It’s so important for your productivity, for your relationships, for your general well-being.”
