Proud papa! Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan welcomed their baby boy on Monday, May 6, and the new dad gushed about their son.
“Meghan and myself had a baby boy early this morning — a very healthy boy,” the Duke of Sussex, 34, told press the same day. “Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. This has been the most amazing experience I could possibly imagine. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension. But we are both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everyone out there. It’s been amazing. So we just wanted to share this with everybody.”
He added: “I haven’t been in many births. This is definitely my first birth. It was amazing, absolutely incredible. As I said, I am so incredibly proud of my wife and as every father and parent would ever say, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to die for, so I’m just over the moon.”
The pair announced their baby’s birth on Instagram with a statement, writing: “We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.”
The palace went on to say: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 0526hrs. The baby weighs 7lbs 3oz. The Duke of Sussex was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news. The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
The couple, who tied the knot in May 2018, announced five months later that they were expecting. In February, a source told Us Weekly exclusively how Harry was doting on Meghan during her pregnancy.
“Harry’s being his usual amazing self around Meghan,” the insider said at the time. “He’s keeping an eye on her to ensure she doesn’t overwork because she’s not the best at knowing when to put the brakes on — that’ll be Harry’s job.”
