Family vacations can be a lot regardless of the family dynamic. There are a lot of highs and a lot of lows during the best of times. So we were so impressed to see that Bradley Cooper and ex Irina Shayk are taking a family vacation as co-parents. The former couple is currently traveling in Italy with their 6-year-old daughter Lea De Seine, and we love that their divorce doesn’t mean Lea can’t enjoy a getaway with her parents.
“The Italy trip with her daughter is fun for everyone,” a source told People. “Lea wants them all to travel together. And Irina and Bradley are friendly and get along. They both want to make Lea happy.”
Over the weekend, Shayk shared a carousel of spicy photos on Instagram of her posing topless on the beach. She also shared a picture of Cooper on her Instagram story.
We’d call them traveling overseas together pretty great co-parenting, but the former couple certainly wouldn’t. Shayk told Elle in 2021, two years after she and the Oscar-nominated actor ended their relationship, that they don’t use the term “co-parenting.”
“I never understood the term co-parenting,” she said. “When I’m with my daughter, I’m 100 percent a mother, and when she’s with her dad, he’s 100 percent her dad. Co-parenting is parenting.”
Earlier this summer, Cooper had a candid conversation about fatherhood. At the time, he was not on a beach in Italy. He was hanging off the side of a canyon in the Wyoming Basin, talking with adventurer Bear Grylls as part of his appearance on Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge. He said a key part of his parenting philosophy is that he should let Lea see his failures.
“I mean you learn from your predecessor’s mistakes,” the Guardians of the Galaxy actor said, “and I’ll make tons that hopefully Lea will learn from and then being rigorous with myself to grow. To help unburden her with any of my bullsh*t.”
Whether or not Lea feels burdened by any of her father’s “bullsh*t,” we imagine she doesn’t feel too burdened by her parents’ split. Especially since they’re having an incredible summer abroad together and seemingly still operating as a family unit. And so we have to say, “bravo” to Cooper and Shayk for being 100 percent parents — both together and apart.
These celebrity exes are getting co-parenting right.
