In the third quarter of 2019, around of 25,200 women have completed their pregnancy. A communication from the Federal Statistical office, according to the 3.9 percent more than in the same period last year.

In the past year, the Figures had dropped slightly: In the entire year of 2018, almost 101.000 women had an abortion – 0.2 percent less than in 2017.

The current statistic is that the majority of women decided, for personal reasons for the termination of pregnancy: 96 percent of the procedures were performed, the Statistical office according to the so-called consulting arrangement. This provides that women can have an abortion within the first twelve weeks without medical or criminological reason for criminal free – but only if you have previously attended a recognised advice centre. In the remaining four per cent of cases a medical indication was the reason.

Almost three-quarters (71 percent) of the women were between 18 and 34 years, 18 percent between 35 and 39 years of age and eight percent 40 years and older. Three percent of the women, the power take-offs, were younger than 18 years. Around 40 per cent of the women had brought before the termination of a pregnancy, no child.

The Numbers are trustworthy?

More than half of the abortions were carried out with the suction method, for a quarter of the abortion pill Mifegyne is used. The interventions were performed predominantly in an outpatient setting.

Abortion opponents argue sometimes, the Figures of the Federal Statistical office would estimate the actual number of abortions in Germany are significantly lower.

In truth, all physicians in Germany are required by law to report abortions. The facilities provide not automatically your Numbers, you will be reminded twice in writing of their duty. Subsequently, the Federal office imposed fines of up to 5000 Euro.

In most cases, the Doctors responded, however, at the latest, in the second Mahnrunde, writes the German Federal Statistical office on demand. For this reason, it is unlikely that in the Figures, a significant number of unreported exist.
