'Make memories, don’t waste a second of life' – Widow Stephen Teap shares heartbreaking memory of family's 'celebration' trip to Portugal

Cervical check campaigner Stephen Teap, the Cork father of two young sons who lost his wife Irene to cervical cancer, has paid tribute to her on their holiday in Legoland.

Irene was one of the 221 women caught up in the CervicalCheck controversy. She died in July 2017 having twice been given the all-clear in smear tests carried out in 2010 and 2013.

On Friday, her widower Stephen posted a memory on Facebook of the family’s trip to Portugal in 2016, which they all thought was a holiday to celebrate her all-clear.

He wrote: “Very sobering to see this Facebook memory pop up on my timeline today as I sit here with Oscar and Noah in Legoland.”

“This day 3 years ago we were jetting off to Portugal to celebrate what we thought was Irene’s victory on beating Cervical Cancer.”

“Amazing how much life can change in such a short space of time. But what I take away from this photo is the importance of #makingmemories, don’t waste a second of life, you’ll never know when it will be your last, always keep moving forward and every now and then take a little rest.”
