Snoring impacts two billion people in the world (plus their partners) and the noisy problem is even more common in winter. Snoring can be caused by a number of factors such as your lifestyle choices or sleeping positions, but a lot of people don’t realise that quality of air is a key player in the mission to beat snoring. Express.co.uk chatted to the experts at Filter King to find out the five ways to improve air quality and beat snoring.

Snoring treatments shouldn’t be limited to pillows or medication, you should always consider air quality.

David McDonnald, founder of Filter King, explained: “When we think of people snoring, we often think of lifestyle choices such as a bad diet and excessive alcohol consumption as the leading factors.

“Although this statement is correct, the quality of air within your home also plays a huge part in whether you get a good night’s sleep or not.

“Reducing air pollution within your home and creating a cleaner environment to live and sleep in could prevent breathing issues and therefore snoring.

“Cleaning your home regularly, introducing houseplants and monitoring the temperature around you are just a few factors to consider.”

Here are five ways to improve air quality in order to beat snoring.

Keep a consistent temperature

Studies have suggested that when temperatures increase, specifically during the warmer months, your breathing during sleep will be affected.

Medical experts have recommended that you sleep in temperatures of around 18.3C (65 degrees Fahrenheit), as this will reduce your chances of breathing problems.

Eliminate allergens and bacteria

Although filters help to create cleaner air, it’s also important to make sure you’re cleaning your home regularly.

Doing so will reduce the number of allergens and bacteria and create a healthier environment.

By simply hoovering and cleaning the surfaces around you, you will reduce your chances of breathing difficulties in the night and lower the chances of you snoring.

Only smoke outdoors

Smoking is one of the biggest factors which contribute to breathing problems, whether you’re a smoker or not.

Being around second-hand smoke can still impact the quality of air around you and your breathing.

With this in mind, smoking should only take place outdoors, to leave indoor air as clean as possible.

Consider purchasing house plants

Houseplants are mainly used to add a decorative appearance to your home and make you feel closer to nature, but they have health benefits too.

Plants have an abundance of benefits and opt as a great way to purify the air around you.

They can give off large amounts of oxygen which will have a positive impact on your breathing and will stop you from snoring.

Clean your air filters

Increased air pollution has been linked to breathing problems during sleep, which is why it’s important to make sure the air around you is filtered and as clean as possible.

Clean your air filters as regularly as possible, as this will allow you to breathe better throughout the night.

If snoring is proving to be a significant issue, speak to a medical professional.
