You’ve got to hand it to Lizzo. Aside from having the vocal chords of a superhuman Queen, the woman is nothing short of an icon when it comes to body positivity, self-love and going after what you want. In a world where social conditioning has programmed us to look negatively at our bodies and see them only as something that can be improved and worked on through punishing diets and unsustainable fitness routines, Lizzo is proving health isn’t just about how you present on the outside, it’s also about doing good and being kind to yourself. Having just slid into the DMs of Chris Evans, Lizzo is continuing to cement her Queen status with a naked selfie in keeping with Taurus season.
The unedited naked selfie was posted to Instagram and succeeded in breaking the Internet, with fans quick to applaud the star for her radiant self-love and steering away from things like filters and heavy editing which has become so pervasive on the platform. Lizzo captioned the post: “To celebrate I wanna give y’all this unedited selfie…now normally I would fix my belly and smooth my skin but baby I wanted show u how I do it au natural.”

The post also celebrates the Dove Self Esteem Project which Lizzo is taking part in, with the hope that by doing so she can help “change the conversation about beauty standards.”
It’s not the first time Lizzo has served as a role model for body positivity and self-love. Her own social media pages are a shrine to such ideals and in March, she shared a TikTok on why videos about fat girls who are active and eat well matter. “These videos are important to show every single body is different and how it functions different,” she said. “What really bothers me are the fake doctors in the comments saying oh you have this or you might have this condition…No! What if I’m just fat? What if this is just my body? Bodies are not all designed to be slim with a dix pack.”
She certainly leads by example. In June of last year, Lizzo shared a TikTok workout video which showed her doing a number of workouts, ranging from jump rope to cycling and even weights. “Hey. So I’ve been working out consistently for the last five years, and it may come as a surprise for some of y’all, but I’m not working out to have your ideal body type. I’m working out to have my ideal body type,” said Lizzo. “And you know what type that is? None of your fucking business. Because I am beautiful, I am strong, I do my job, and I stay on my job.”
Never one to shy away from a strong message, Lizzo told her followers: “If you’re feeling down on yourself today, just remember that your body is your body. Nobody got yo body, so enjoy that b****.”
