Sticking up for herself! Jade Roper responded to an Instagram user who slammed her for having fun with her 21-month-old daughter, Emerson.
“To all those commenting on this post how could I go from being depressed to eating pizza with my child, [you] are 1) really insensitive to people actually living with depression and 2) putting words in my mouth,” the Bachelor alum wrote on her Thursday, June 13, Instagram Story. “I struggle and have low moments just like every normal person. I just needed a place to express myself and find some upliftment [sic] and support. (Thank you to the majority of you who helped and related to me).”
In the photo posted earlier that day, captioned, “Daddy watches sports while we eat all the pizza,” the reality star and her toddler bit into a slice of pepperoni together.
This mother-daughter shot came two days after the pregnant star shared a somber selfie of Emerson sleeping on her chest. “Pregnant, sick, exhausted and overwhelmed…all while taking care of a sick toddler,” Roper captioned the Tuesday, June 11, upload. “Feeling really low, unsure and doubting myself, how am I actually supposed to be able to handle all this with two children? Wondering if I’ll be good enough, strong enough for two littles who will depends on me.”
After going on to say she was “unable to juggle life as it is” ahead of her baby boy’s arrival and “scared” she would lose herself, the Bachelor in Paradise alum closed with: “I love my babies more than anything, just not really sure this facade of balancing it all truly exists when you’re a mom. I know this day/week/phase too shall pass, just hoping I’m not alone in feeling like this sometimes.”
In addition to the support she received from her followers, Roper’s comments also included hate. “How did you go from depression to this in a day? Just curious,” one user wrote.
Roper and her husband, Tanner Tolbert, announced in January that they are expecting their second child together, a son. Emerson isn’t sure what to expect, the Colorado native told Us Weekly exclusively at the time.
“She doesn’t understand right now,” she explained. “We’ve been talking to her about it and showing the ultrasound pictures.”
The former ABC personalities met and fell in love on season 2 of Bachelor in Paradise and wed in 2016.
