Study Says 50% Of People Don’t Change Their Undies Daily

On the to-do list of decent human beings, we include things like helping old ladies cross the road, saying thanks to your bus driver and changing your knickers on the daily. But apparently a whole lotta people haven’t gotten the memo about that last one because a survey by apparel maker Tommy John has found that half of people have worn the same pair of underwear for two days or more.

Can we get an ‘ew’?

Even more shockingly, 13 per cent of the 2,000 men and women surveyed claimed that they’ve worn the same undies for a week or more, with men being 2.5 more times likely to wear the same pair for more than seven days.

The results of the survey went viral with many responding online users responding… well, understandably in our opinion.

“What is wrong with people”, one tweeter user noted. “This can’t be serious…we call ourselves a civilised society?” another commented.

The new survey results have sparked a long-heated debate about re-wearing underwear. So, just how bad is it to don the same pair of undies across multiple days?

Experts say that results range from gross to downright dangerous, including bad odours, increased sweating, yeast infections and acne and skin problems.

It wasn’t only the topic of re-wearing unwashed underwear that circulated online, in a separate survey of a thousand participants, 46 per cent claimed to of own the same pair of underwear for more than a year and 38 per cent of them weren’t sure how long they have owned a particular pair for.

Although brands lead you to believe your underwear needs to be replaced every six months, individuals only should replace their underwear when tears, marks and fraying starts to occur in order to adhere to hygiene standards and avoid bacterial growth. So if your underwear is developing holes and stains, be sure to replace them. Its best to make your old collection of underwear a brief history (pun intended).
